Thankful for Joy
Our world is full of the unusual, the whimsical and the surprising. Recall a time you've come across something that just skidded you to a halt. Recently I was blithely cruising down Coburg Road when I noticed a granny rocking chair, complete with ruffle and floral cushions, sitting on the sidewalk.
This got me thinking about all the entertaining things we encounter in life. Let me share a few of my experiences with you. I'm sure it will bring to mind some of your own.
This adorable pampered feline put a big smile on my face. Surely she dines on grilled salmon, filet mignon, and chicken cordon bleu each night!
Why this caught my attention in a downtown parking lot, I have no idea. I was simply surprised by the varied beautiful colors a corroded pipe can make, plus I found the inverted dixie cup whimsical.
One summer morning I arrived about 7am at the Bandon jetty to go for a walk on the beach. A pet pig and his companion dog was the last thing I expected to encounter!
This turkey family caught me quite off guard in downtown Eugene one day.
These unusual clouds give the impression they're spilling golden rain. I couldn't help thinking, "Wow, God does water color sunsets?!"

This holiday month I am particularly thankful for joy—moments that bring a smile, a second curious look, a gasp of astonished surprise, or awed wonder. I see them as nano blessings filling the in-between spaces of our lives. What joy that God sprinkles our lives with his goodness when we're least expecting it!
"In your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore" (Psalm 16:11b).
"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever" (Psalm 107:1).
